Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leathergoods and Footwear
Exporters' Association (BFLLFEA) as a trade organization was first granted
license by the government on 02.03.1986 under the title "Bangladesh
Finished Leather Exporters' Association" subsequently, in 1994, it was
renamed as "Bangladesh Finished Leather and Leathergoods Exporters'
Association". Finally, in 1999, through another amendment, the
organization assumed the present title- "Bangladesh Finished Leather,
Leathergoods and Footwear Exporters' Association (BFLLFEA)". The said
amendments not only expanded the title of this organization but also broadened
its role in rendering service to its members increasingly included from new
sectors of production
OBJECTIVES
The notable aims and objectives of the association are:-
to promote, protect and safeguard the interest of all members; to maintain the
highest unity mutual cooperation and good will among the members; to render
possible help and assistance in overcoming their difficulties; to promote or
oppose legislative measures affecting the business of the members; to maintain
liaison with different government departments, FBCCI and other related
organizations for the protection of the lawful cause the members and so on.
Bangladesh Government has identified leather sector as
a thrust sector for export and to exploit full potentialities of this sector.
Hides and Skins of Bangladesh have well reputation and
good demand in world market for its fine fiber structure and good grains.
The annual supply of hides and skins in the country is
about 250 million sq. ft. consisting of 64.83% cow hides, 32.74% goat skin,
1.09% sheep skin and 2.19% buffalo hides.
Less than 50% of the total stock is required to meet
domestic demand and the rest is exported. The main export destinations are Hong
Kong, Italy, Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Spain, UK, Germany, France Saudi
Arabia, Malaysia etc.
More than 200 tanneries are producing crust leather
and finished leather.
20% of their total product meets the demand of the
domestic footwear and leather goods manufacturing industries. Rest 80% is exported
to different countries.
Bangladesh is potential offshore location for leather,
leathergoods and Footwear products manufacturing with competitive cost.
High quality grain patterns, fiber structure (texture)
etc. are the unique features of Bangladeshi leather.
Largest tanneries or Shoe industries are well equipped
and they undertake regular R & D work and product development activities.
Easy import regulation for tannery chemicals and other
items (Bonded warehouse facilities available).
Lower level of labour cost.
Relatively less-lead time.
Products enjoy GSP facilities in many countries.
Price structure is quite competitive.
New leather processing zone will facilitate accelerated
industrial performance in an Environment-Friendly Working area.
Leathergoods like ladies bag, wallets, belts, leather
cover for camera, laptop, leather suitcase, etc. and high quality footwears are
being manufactured in big enterprise as well as in many small factories.
