Establishment & Status:

Bangladesh Electrical Merchandise Manufactures Association (BEMMA). This is an association of all electrical merchandise manufacturers of Bangladesh. BEMMA is established in 1985 and registered with the Director of Trade organization (DTO) Ministry of Commerce and the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. BEMMA obtained membership from Light Engineering Product-Business Promotion Council (LEP-BPC) Ministry of Commerce and Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) Foundation, Ministry of Industries of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. BEMMA is an ‘A’ class Member of the Federation of The Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Dhaka.

Members, Membership and Management:

The association started its function with 14 (Fourteen) members in May, 1986. There is as many as 2500 manufacturers of electrical products in Bangladesh. But our present number of members as per Member Register in 915. The membership is open and compulsory for all engaged in manufacturing Electrical Products in Bangladesh. Our target membership is 2500. We are trying to fulfill the target. Member of BEMMA is being increasing day by day. This is a continuous process. The affairs of the association are managed by an Executive Committee of 21 elected members of which 1 is President, 1 Senior Vice President, 1 Vice president and 18 Executive Members.

BEMMA's Achievements:

BEMMA had been playing a very important role for long time to modernize and setting up all up planned and scattered Electrical Industries in a particular place. At last BEMMA was succeeded to establish an Electrical Industrial Estate in 1993 under the name and style "BIDDUT SHILPA NAGARI" on 10 acres of land allotted by RAJUK at Shayempur-Kadamtoly Industrial Estate 2nd phase, about 7 K.M away from Dhaka zero point towards Narayangonj. The total land was divided into 67 Industrial plots and allotted to the members. Small, Medium and Large Industrial units are so far established in at last 60% of the plots. From its long dedicated service BEMMA experienced a problem which is a building of its own. To redress the problem BEMMA purchased an Industrial plot measuring 5 kathas building on the plot and complete construction up to 2nd floor so far, and invested about Tk. 63.00 lacs in it. To meet the increasing demand of the members a second Electrical Industrial Project is under process of materialization with the active co-operation of BSCIC, Dhaka.

Services to the members

The association patronizes and works for establishment and development of Electrical products manufacturing industries in the private sector. It looks after the problems and barriers to the improvements of the private sector industries inn respect of procuring modern machineries with high technology, access to finance and world market with world class quality of its products. It arranges workshop, training scheme etc. for the workers at home and sends the owners to international machinery and high technology fairs, seminars etc. abroad. It represents the members to the Government authorities, public bodies etc. for removing their grievances and meeting the legitimate demands. BEMMA serves its members in respect of the problem about taxes, duties, VAT and ensure their participation to National Exchequer. It exercises its responsibility in placing appropriate proposals to impose or withdraw, increase or decrease the taxes, surcharges, levies etc. to the NBR at the time of preparation of National Budget every year in order to protect the interest and ensure the survival of the local industries.
