Bangladesh Agro-Processors’ Association (BAPA)

The objectives of Bangladesh Agro-Processors’ Association (BAPA) are described below:

To establish a non-profit organization that will bring together and represent processors of all types of agricultural products and supporting industries to include field crops, horticultural items, mushrooms, fruits and vegetables, dairy & poultry, fisheries & other agricultural items.

To protect, develop, support and promote all measures and steps toward growing, producing, processing, manufacturing and marketing at home and abroad of all agricultural items to includes fruits, vegetables, horticultural products, field crops, mushrooms, dairy, poultry and fisheries etc. in Bangladesh, and to coordinate the efforts of the members of the Association to this end.

To promote contract growers and producers of agricultural products of all types supplying to the agro-processing industries.

To promote export of processed agricultural products in all forms to include frozen, dehydrated, pickled, canned, bottled or in any other form or container.

To work with the Government, the Parliament and the Ministries to solve problems and obtain fair and equitable laws regarding the agro-processing industries in Bangladesh and contract growers/producers of agricultural products supporting the agro-processing industries.

To make representation to the Government, public bodies, organizations and other authorities on behalf of the members of the Association for the redress of their genuine grievances and for meeting the legitimate demands of members of the Association.

To work with national and international research bodies for facilitating R & D work necessary for enhancing productivity and growth of the agro-processing sector and supporting contract growers of agricultural products.

To collect and disseminate necessary information on agro-processing, contract farming and supporting industries among the members of the association.

To promote the highest standard of business ethics, integrity and professionalism and quality standard between and among the members of the association and others.

To serve as an arbitrator, and/or mediator, in solving problems and minor disputes, keeping in view at all times, the best interests of the association and its members, as well as the interests of the consumer and the country.

To promote, protect and safeguard the interests of all the members of the Association directly or indirectly connected with the agro-processing sector in Bangladesh and connected contract growers of agricultural products.

To promote and maintain the highest standard of unity and cooperation among the members of the Association in the conduct of business carried on by them.

To consider and deal with all questions and matters concerned the processing of agricultural products, contract growing and to devise ways and means to overcome any difficulty or problem arising in connection therewith.

To develop, through product promotion, wider and new uses of agricultural related products at home and abroad.

To discuss, promote and support all measures beneficial to agro-processing and contract growing and to oppose measures detrimental thereto.

To promote and become members and/or associates of all national and international organizations and bodies directly or indirectly related to agro-processing and contract growing and enhancement and advancement or environment-friendly sustainable agriculture.

To promote by all available means the manufacture and production of all types of agro-processing items in the country.

To actively promote self-sufficiency in all types of process agro-products and production in the country.

To establish and promote contacts with foreign countries and international or foreign organizations, and develop relations with them in order to enhance the trade relation with the agro-processing sector in the country.

To subscribe and become members of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry and to procure form and furnish to any organization of trade and industry in Bangladesh or foreign country such information as may be conducive to the attainment of the objectives of the Association.

To obtain or develop informational books, brochures, visual aids and educational items for members and to distribute them on a pro-rata, non-profit no-loss basis.

To raise or borrow funds or secure the payment of money for promotion of the objectives of the Association and for meeting its financial obligations and to charge the Association’s property or assets.

To purchase, lease, exchange or otherwise acquire and to alter, improve, develop any land, buildings, houses, estates, farms, fittings and furniture or any other movable or immovable properties, licenses, rights or privileges, as deemed necessary or expedient for accomplishing the objectives of the Association.

To elect officers, appoint staff, agents, managers, secretaries, contractors and establish agencies and/or branches of the Association in any place within Bangladesh, whatsoever.

To accept any bequest, gifts, donation or subscription towards any fund or endowment and to establish and support institutions or trusts calculated to benefit the members of the Association, its employees or ex-employees or their dependents, and to grant gratuities, pensions and allowances, and to subscribe, donate or grant money for the promotion of agro-processing sector in Bangladesh or for charitable or benevolent objects or for any public, general or useful objects or for any public, general or useful objects and for agriculture in general.

To arrange for giving relief, medical or otherwise, to the members of the Association, its employees or ex-employees or their dependents and to provide donations or grants as possible.

To bring suits and take legal actions, civil, criminal, revenue or otherwise, whether original or appellate, and to grant vokalatnamas authorizing legal practitioners to appear for and on behalf of the Association before all courts, civil, criminal, revenue or otherwise.

To draw, make, accept, discount, execute and issue cheque, pay orders, promissory notes and other negotiable or transferable instruments.

To pay for services rendered or to be rendered in connection with formation and registration of the Association or for furtherance of its objectives.

To represent and act for the members of the Association before all ministries, departments or agencies of the government and before all types of public and private, national and international organizations and agencies whose activities affect the manufacture, distribution, transporation, trade and use of agro-processing and to nominate its representative(s) for such organizations, if required.

To contribute to the progress and advancement in every lawful manner and do all lawful acts to promote the welfare of the members of the Association.

To act as advisors and mediators in all such matters pertaining thereto as may from time to time arise between the members of the Association and to arbitrate in the settlement of disputes between such members who solicit such arbitration.

To import goods, materials and other requirements of the members of the Association for the purpose of experiment, investigation and research but not for any commercial purpose.

To promote export of agricultural produces of the country to achieve sustainable commercially-viable agricultural production.

To promote, sponsor and encourage all type of assistance to the farmers and agro-processors for promotion of agro-based production and trade and industry in general.

And generally to do all such acts and things as may be necessary from time to time in connection with the affairs of the Association or for the attainment of the above objectives of any of them.
